Volunteers' Week 2026

I’m Finlay. I am and S2 pupil at Nairn Academy and volunteer as a Young Leader for the Auldearn Primary Football team, Sports camp and the Bee The Change Intergenerational Choir. I started young leaders to boost my confidence and people skills. I also want to be a primary school teacher, and this gives me experience of working with children.

I have enjoyed coaching at Auldearn, helping at sports camps and singing at the Bee The Change Choir. I have gained lots of new skills such as my confidence to lead a session, new friendship, leadership skills and problem-solving. A moment that I remember is when I performed at the street market with the bee the change choir. It was nice being with all the different generations together and helping give a child confidence to perform when he had stage fright.

If you're thinking of becoming a young leader, you should go for it! There are loads of opportunities to volunteer with different things. It's a great experience and you gain lots of new skills and make new friendships, young and old."
