Volunteers' Week 2026

I’m Vir and I’ve been volunteering as a Support Volunteer with Victim Support Scotland since September 2023. I had recently retired and had also recently moved to Inverness, so I had more time on my hands. I still wanted to make a contribution to society and, with Victim Support Scotland, I can also make some use of my skill set from previously enforcing legislation.

Volunteering has also been an opportunity to meet local people and help people going through very difficult times in their lives. Working with the staff and other volunteers is very rewarding as well and I’ve enjoyed getting to know a few people in the local community through the role.

For anybody looking to volunteer, I would say it is definitely worth considering, but it does require a degree of commitment. At Victim Support Scotland it can be quite challenging at times, but very rewarding also. It also helps if you have some of the skill sets required for the role."
