Over 16 Only

This Ongoing opportunity has no application deadline.

Ward Visitor

Highland

No minimum commitment and any day that is suitable to you.

Role Description

Highland Hospital Radio provides a 24 hour radio service for the patients and staff of the NHS Highland area. We provide a music and entertainment service as well as broadcasting health and wellbeing messaging to make anyone's day in hospital that little bit better, and inform them of the services available to support them while they recover. Informing patients and staff on how to access the hospital radio service is key to our charity to reach its aims and objectives. Ward Visiting involves spending maybe just 1 or 2 hours visiting the wards of NHS Highland hospitals to meet with patients and assist them in accessing hospital radio. You may help them use their smart device to download the HHR Radio app, or show them how to listen on their web browser. You will be the friendly face of the hospital radio service and let patients know what they can expect to hear. You will also ask for their music choices to be played during our live programming in the evenings and Saturday afternoons. You'd also engage with ward staff to advise them of the service being available to staff too. We are looking for someone who is comfortable in meeting new people, and is keen to cheer up someone in hospital.

Training Provided:

We will have you join a volunteer presenter to sit in on some programmes to get an idea of what you would be promoting to patients. We would provide instructions on how to access wards, identify yourself to the nurse in charge and give guidance on what we can offer patients. We can also have someone accompany you initially on some ward visits, but would look for you to work independently.

A PVG is required to be completed prior to commencing this role.
