Volunteer Driver
Wheels In Nairnshire

Over 18
Ongoing
Nairnshire
Enough to take clients to and from destination, according to your availability
Role Description
Our volunteer drivers either give our clients a lift in their own car or in one of our vehicles. You might use this vehicle for wheelchair users, but also if you don't immediately have your own car available. Journeys vary from a few miles in or around Nairn or from anywhere in Nairnshire to as far afield as Inverness, Dingwall and Golspie. We reimburse mileage expenses.
We encourage our volunteers to enjoy the company of others and to give our clients a warm and welcoming experience. We don't have rotas and don't impose trips - we circulate basic details of date, time and location and volunteers who are free and interested can volunteer to take the task which we allocate on a first come first served basis.
Volunteers don't need extra insurance. They'll need to notify their insurers, but because it's not "hire and reward" there will be no extra cost. We'll ask to see a copy of your insurance and driver's licence and we'll ask you to allow us to apply to Disclosure Scotland for a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check. We provide insurance for those who drive one of our vehicles and show you how to use the foldaway wheelchair ramp.
To find out more please contact our Manager, Jon Wartnaby, on 07716 214777 or email admin@wheelsinnairnshire.org
Training Provided:
We provide a comprehensive introduction to your role and how to conduct your task. We'll shadow you on your first journey and if you want to use it we'll introduce you to one of our vehicles and the use of the foldaway wheelchair ramp. You'll be supported throughout by our Manager Jon and can join regular volunteer get-togethers
