Role Description

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is looking for Event Volunteers to engage with visitors to Celebration of the Centuries at Fort George, 8 and 9 August 2026. Our HES Event Volunteers have one thing in common: a love of being around people during our award-winning events as part of an excellent visitor experience in the settings of the unique places in our care. About this volunteer opportunity This is a flexible opportunity that has potential to be varied or focused, depending on the interests of the individual, the visitors on the day, and what would provide added value to the event and its team. At the heart of the role is helping visitors to have a valuable and fun experience. Activities that Event Volunteers at Celebration of the Centuries can engage in include: •Crowd marshalling •Meeting and greeting •Leading crafting or informal learning activities •Answering questions and giving directions •Providing information about the event •Timekeeping Public speaking experience, historical knowledge, or previous volunteering at events is not required, but a willingness and enthusiasm to be around people and to learn about our organisation and the event is essential. You will be volunteering outdoors and in potentially inclement weather, but shelter locations will be provided.

Training Provided:

Induction and training will be provided on the event day for all activities that volunteers will participate in. Volunteers are supported by a volunteer coordinator.
