Role Description
Position Summary
As a Volunteer Lorry Driver, you will play a vital role in the operations of our charity by helping transport donated furniture and goods to and from various locations. Your contributions will directly support our mission of promoting reuse, while also providing individuals the chance to gain work experience and practical training. This role requires a compassionate, responsible, and reliable individual who shares our passion for making a difference in the lives of others.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive the charity's lorry to collect and deliver donated furniture and goods from various locations in a safe and timely manner.
Assist with loading and unloading items, ensuring all items are handled with care.
Help maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the lorry, reporting any issues to the Removals and Transport Manager.
Engage with the public, donors, and volunteers in a friendly and professional manner.
Support other team members in day-to-day operations and contribute to the success of our training programs.
Adhere to all health and safety regulations while driving and carrying out duties.
Participate in volunteer training sessions to improve service delivery and personal development.
Person Spec, Skills and Qualifications (desired but not essential)
Organised, kind-hearted and friendly, with enthusiasm and integrity and the ability to pay attention to detail. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with staff, volunteers, and the public.
A positive attitude and willingness to support the charity’s mission and values.
Previous experience in driving a lorry or working with charities is desirable but not essential. CPC card desirable.
Person Spec, Skills and Qualifications (essential)
Valid UK driving license with cat B1 (for driving vans up to 3.5 tonne)
Valid UK driving license with cat C or C1 (for driving lorries up to 7.5 tonne)
Good knowledge of local areas, road safety and traffic regulations.
Physically fit and able to assist with heavy lifting and loading of furniture.
Reliable and punctual with a strong commitment to volunteer hours.
